Beauty On a budget

So it's that time of the month when the bank balance is far from healthy, maybe the postie has just delivered a pile of ominous looking letters that you just know are going to dent the balance further. What's a girl to do, going without a few luxuries could help, but it certainly isn't fun, not to worry Iv'e come up with some beauty replacements and pampering treats ( for those nights in, instead of the costly nights out).
Now we all love our products and treatments but for those times when you just cannot afford to buy them then why not give some of these a try.
It may be tempting to max out your store card but it will be alot more rewarding when you see how good these ideas work and you will be smiling when your credit card statement comes.

Hair Treatments and products

If your hair has been abused by the straighteners and attacked with the hair colours then you probably like to/ need to use a hair treatment, well when you can't afford to buy one here is a great alternative straight out of the kitchen.
This is just as good as some of the leading hot oil treatments available, start by taking Olive oil and honey in a small saucepan.I hav'nt been specific with measurements as it will all depend on hair length and thickness.
Heat the two being carefull not to overheat. leave too cool untill at the hottest temperature you can stand without burning yourself. Now apply this all over your hair paying particular attention to the lengths and ends, if you suffer with oily roots then just apply it to the lengths and ends.
Cover with a warm towel, or polythene hair cap and leave to penetrate the hair for 20 minutes.
wash and style as usual for lovelly locks.

Dry Shampoo

Im sure you have all had those days where you know you should be washing your hair in the shower, but you also know you don't have time to style it afterwards. so we leave it and spend the day trying to hide our oil slick hairdo(n't). There are some amazing sprays on the market for days like this, but if you can't afford it I have an alternative. When I was younger I would use talcum powder to mop up the excess oil, now this can work, but is best on very light hair colours being careful not to apply too much.
The best thing to use is CornStarch, take 1 tablespoon of it in a pepper/sugar sifter and shake all over root areas untill used up. Continue getting ready (around 10 minutes) then taking a paddle brush, brush the hair all out thouroughly and Voila, you may thank me later.

Now there are so many things kicking around your kitchen that can give your hair a treat so why not have a play around with a combination of these things and make your own custom hair mask

Eggs are amazing for repairing and nourishing, if you have Normal hair then use all the egg ie: White and yolk. The white has amazing anti bacterial properties and will help rid your scalp of oily areas while the yolk will work in nourishing and moisturising any damaged/dry areas.
If you have oily hair then just use the egg white, to control the oiliness and help balance out your hair.
Again if your hair is very dry or damaged then by just using the rich yolk you will be giving your hair a moisture boost.
Once you have applied the egg leave it on for 20 minutes then rinse thouroughly with cool/ tepid water.
Don't forget this as Scrambled hair barnet will never ever be a good look.

Other great conditioners include mayonaisse, honey, olive oil, and advocado.
Advocado is actually one of the best conditioners to repair damaged hair, and also is great at helping to tame unruly frizz prone hair. The oils in advocado actually mimic our own natural oil secretions so are the closest thing to work in harmony with our bodies.

Dairy products such as sour cream and natural yogurt are great to help remove build up caused by styling products and air pollution, the lactic acid gently strips the hair restoring it whilst the milk proteins nourish.
For more intense build up the best treatment to use is actually bicarbonate of soda, mixed with water into a paste, applied and left on hair for 15 minutes, rinsed and washed as usual. This treatment can be used monthly for heavy build up.

For limp lifeless hair flat beer is wonderful mix leftover or flat beer with a teaspoon of sunflower oil and 1 raw egg, apply all over and leave to work for 10 minutes, rinse with tepid water.
Lemon juice can be used neatly and directly to treat a flaky scalp, and vinegar can be added to the final rinse after shampoo and conditioning, this helps to close the cuticle promoting shine.

So thats your locks sorted, but what about the rest of our bodies? well for a all over moisturiser again Olive oil works wonders especially for those dry areas like elbows and knees and feet.
A great way of helping get perfect bottom and thighs with less cellulite is to mix 1part sugar with 1part olive oil and use to massage your thighs and buttocks in circular motions in an upwards direction this is obviously best done in the bath or shower so you can rinse away easily.
You can also add essential oils to the sugar and olive oil mix and hey presto! you have your own relaxing sugar scrub. You can use this anywhere to slough dead skin away.

Luxury Face Mask

What about a Spa style facemask to enjoy on one of your nights in pampering Turmeric has been used for centuries in the middle east, not just for aromatic flavouring in spicy dishes, but as a skin brightener.
Even to this day in Indian culture the bride and groom use a turmeric paste to brighten complexions for there big day. For this face mask be careful if you are light in complexion as turmeric can stain skin and end up looking dirty or sallow rather than glowing and radiant, this mask does suit darker complexions so use less turmeric depending on your skin colour.

 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric
1/2 teaspoon of honey
1/4 mashed banana
For oily skin add 1 teaspoon of natural yogurt and a dash of lemon
For DrySkin add 1 teaspoon of olive oil and a dash of almond oil
Combine all the ingredients depending on your skin type and apply to freshly cleansed skin, leave on sit back and relax for 15 minutes, next either do it yourself or get somebody else to do it ( think slumber, pamper, evening with a few girlfriends) start at your neck and work upwards ending at forehead.use sweeping movements on your neck upwards and then onto jawline
Use small circular massage movements all around face working the mask in, be careful around delicate eye area but continue working the mask up onto forehead and round temple areas.
Don't over work it as too much massage can overstimulate sebum (oil) glands, which can inturn have a negative effect and cause breakouts, and we are just aiming for gentle stimulation to get blood flow circulating for a healthy glow.
Rinse the mask off carefully avoiding eyes (turmeric in your eye is not a nice feeling).
Thats it a pampering spa mask and massage, and it really is nice.
If you are fair skinned or just don't like the idea of the turmeric then you can swap turmeric for cinnamon, and believe me it smells divine.
So while I am not a genius and I can't tell you how to create homemade Dior Foundations or L'oreal Mascaras I hope these help stretch the pennies or are even just a fun way of using some natural beauty products.
Let me no what you think, or if you try any of these id love to know your opinion, maybe you have some ideas you can share with me.
Let me know and have fun reading and trying xoxoxox
